For a server, is it possible to load a edited map one day, say apocalypses themed, and next day go back to normal map with out effecting saved player content?
Yes, very much so, all player save data is held on an external databases such as MySQL / CouchDB. You could load multiple maps and delete whatever ones you feel like, as nothing is held within the map data itself, although all this would certainly be an undertaking.
